Making the Most of Your First Visit

From your initial consultation through diagnostic testing and treatment, our team is committed to supporting you every step of the way. Your first consultation is an opportunity to set the stage for a personalized fertility treatment plan that will guide you on your path to parenthood. You can be confident that Boston IVF’s experienced team of specialists will guide you through every step, ensuring your path is as smooth as possible. Here are a few strategies we recommend to ensuring you make the most out of your first appointment.

Self-Advocate & Ask Questions
It’s natural to feel overwhelmed when facing so many new terms, concepts, and questions. Many people are shy about asking too many questions, but when it comes to your first fertility visit, we want you to ask as much as you need—no matter how small or repetitive your questions might seem.

Our goal is to ensure you fully understand the topics we discuss and feel empowered to make informed decisions about your care. By being proactive and asking questions, you can gain a better understanding of your diagnosis and treatment options.

Bring Support
Having a strong support system is extremely beneficial during your fertility journey. For couples, we encourage both partners to attend the first appointment together, as it’s important for both partners to fully understand the journey ahead.

If you are single, consider bringing a close friend or family member to your first appointment. A support person can help you absorb important information and provide emotional support as you navigate your options.

When Should I Seek Fertility Care?

Choosing to start or grow your family is a monumental decision, one that often brings with it a mix of emotions—excitement, anticipation, and sometimes, anxiety. For those who experience challenges in conceiving, whether due to age, underlying health conditions, or other circumstances, our reproductive endocrinologists are here to help.

Broadly speaking, couples under 35 are encouraged to seek fertility care if they have been trying to conceive for one year without success. For couples between the ages of 35 and 40, care is often recommended after six months of trying, and for those over 40, connecting with a specialist early in the process is advisable.

Factors like irregular menstrual cycles, known reproductive disorders, or previous miscarriages can also prompt earlier intervention. Additionally, if you have a history of conditions like PCOS, endometriosis, or known male-factor infertility, speaking with a specialist as soon as you’re ready to start a family is a wise decision.

Taking the First Step
We understand that pursuing fertility care may not have been part of your original plan, and we know that asking for help can be a difficult step. But you’re not alone. For over 35 years, our specialists have guided thousands of individuals and couples on their family building journeys, helping them achieve their dreams of parenthood.
