Empowering transgender people to build their families

Boston IVF offers personalized, inclusive, and advanced fertility care to support transgender individuals and couples on their journey to parenthood. From fertility preservation to tailored treatment options, our compassionate team provides guidance and support every step of the way.

Embracing who you are.

Boston IVF is proud to have been at the forefront of fertility care for the LGBTQ+ community since 1986 and continues to be an ally for the non-binary reproductive experience. Several Boston IVF doctors recently co-authored a landmark study on transgender fertility care right here within our practice that is helping inform fertility treatment around the country.

Today, 5-10% of Boston IVF’s patients are members of the LGBTQ+ community—a number that continues to grow. We recognize that this community faces marginalization in many areas of healthcare, and we are committed to being part of the solution, providing compassionate, inclusive care to all.

Fertility Preservation

Boston IVF offers cryopreservation of sperm, eggs, or embryos for transgender individuals before undergoing gender-affirming treatments, including surgery. Fertility treatment can also be pursued during a break from hormone therapy. Frozen samples stored in our facility can be used for many years to come.

IUI

IUI is an option when one partner has a uterus. In this procedure, a flexible catheter is placed through the cervix, and sperm (either from one’s partner or a sperm donor) is introduced directly into the uterus during peak fertility, which may be facilitated by medications and/or monitoring.

IVF

IVF is an option for various family structures. In the lab, mature eggs and sperm are combined, which may come from donors if needed. The resulting embryo is then transferred to a uterus—either the egg provider’s or a gestational carrier’s. For trans men with a uterus, carrying the pregnancy is also an option.

Partner Assisted Reproduction

Partner Assisted Reproduction (PAR), sometimes called reciprocal IVF, is a treatment available when both partners have ovaries or a uterus. One partner provides the egg, which is fertilized with donor sperm in the lab. We transfer a resulting embryo into the uterus of the other partner, who carries the pregnancy.
