Some people don’t ovulate predictably or at all – their body doesn’t release a mature egg from the ovary at regular intervals. Without an egg to fertilize, you can’t get pregnant. We can use medications to promote ovulation and improve your chances of conceiving through sex.
Learn MoreIn Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is the gold standard of fertility medicine, offering the highest odds of success per cycle. Eggs are removed from the ovaries, fertilized and grown in a lab, and subsequently transferred into the uterus. Boston IVF clinicians perform more than 8,000 IVF cycles per year.
Learn MoreThis procedure preserves the future fertility of a person with ovaries by using medications to stimulate the ovaries, retrieve eggs, and freeze the mature ones. This can be especially beneficial for individuals undergoing medical treatments that might affect their fertility, such as chemotherapy.
Learn MoreIf an individual is at risk of passing on one of hundreds of inheritable genetic conditions, Boston IVF can use the latest screening technologies to minimize this risk. Genetic testing of the embryos can screen for chromosomal abnormalities, allowing a transfer of those with the highest chance of leading to pregnancy.
Learn MoreThere are a variety of techniques and procedures (such as IUI, IVF, and the utilization of donor sperm, donor eggs, and/or gestational carriers) available to assist LGBTQ+ couples with their journey to parenthood. Boston IVF is proud to have been part of many fertility 'firsts' for family building care in the LGBTQ+ community.
Learn MoreWhen eggs are unavailable due to medical reasons or family composition, Boston IVF can perform IVF using donor eggs. These come from an individual who undergoes an egg retrieval. You may know the donor or find them through an egg bank agency.
Learn moreSometimes sperm is missing from the conception equation, due to medical reasons or family composition. In those cases, sperm from a donor is used for IUI or IVF. You may know the donor or find them through a sperm bank agency.
Learn moreSometimes, people elect to use cryopreserved embryos from an embryo bank agency to achieve pregnancy. The best embryos are carefully selected and transferred to a uterus in hopes of becoming a successful pregnancy and ultimately a baby.
Learn moreWhether for elective reasons or due to necessity, a gestational carrier is a person who you choose to carry your baby for the duration of the pregnancy. A gestational carrier will not be genetically related to the baby and will not be considered a legal parent of the baby once born.
Learn moreGetting pregnant requires several steps: the sperm and egg must meet at the right time, the sperm must fertilize the egg, and the embryo must implant in the uterus. In males, low sperm count or erectile dysfunction can prevent fertilization. In females, issues with eggs, the uterus, or fallopian tubes can interfere. In about half of cases, infertility's cause is unknown, which is why Boston IVF conducts research to better understand its many factors.
Learn about what causes infertility
When straight couples decide to try for a baby, facing delays in conceiving can be disheartening but is more common than many realize. Today, at least 1 in 6 straight couples experiences infertility, defined as the inability to conceive after a year of trying.
At Boston IVF, we encourage couples to consider fertility testing even after six months of trying. For those with known factors such as blocked or absent fallopian tubes, irregular menstrual cycles, or difficulties with intercourse, early testing can pave the way for timely and effective treatment, bringing you one step closer to building your family.
For over three decades, Boston IVF has led the way in LGBTQ+ fertility care, guiding individuals and couples to parenthood. We’ve proudly witnessed advancements in fertility options for all sexual orientations and gender identities. With a range of treatments tailored to your needs, we’re here to help you build your family with compassion, respect, and expertise.
Many individuals choose to pursue parenthood without a partner for various reasons. If this is your path, Boston IVF offers a variety of treatment options to help make your dream a reality. We are honored to be part of your journey and committed to supporting you every step of the way.
Every year, Boston IVF freezes more than 5,000 eggs for individuals who want to protect their chances of getting pregnant later on. Fertility preservation ensures that threats against an individual's fertility – such as aging, cancer treatment, or hormonal treatment for gender transition – do not limit their ability to get pregnant when the time is right.
Egg Freezing
An individual’s egg supply is in continuous decline, with the reduction in number and quality of eggs naturally accelerating over time until relatively few eggs remain by age 40. This sense of urgency is driving more and more individuals to freeze their eggs during their peak years of fertility to get pregnant later on. Some people also elect to freeze their eggs if preparing to undergo chemotherapy, radiation, or gender transition.
Embryos thrive at Boston IVF
Behind the scenes, our lab team of 30+ embryologists and technicians are using innovative technologies and techniques to give IVF embryos the best possible chances to thrive. The higher quality an embryo is, the better chance it will have of implanting and becoming a growing pregnancy.
How does our lab give embryos an edge?
✓ Our embryo development program and grading process selects only the best candidates for implantation.
✓ We are trailblazers in preimplantation genetic testing to evaluate the the chromosomal normalcy of embryos before transfer.
✓ Our experience is extensive, case volume is unmatched, and difficult cases are common. The rarest of cases for other centers are not uncommon for us.
Preimplantation genetic testing of IVF embryos in our lab can give us a clearer picture of the chromosomal makeup of an embryo.
Learn about testingAs an embryo grows in its incubator, it’s always under close supervision. Embryo grading is the process of evaluating the structural appearance of the embryo while it is being incubated in the embryology lab.

The Fertility
Treatment Process
The first step in fertility treatment involves a series of diagnostic tests which provide your doctor with valuable information about you and, when applicable, your partner's medical history and reproductive potential. This information, along with your specific circumstances and goals, will guide which personalized treatments are most appropriate and how quickly you will move to the next stage.
Frequent, sometimes daily, testing is crucial for your doctor to monitor your response to treatment, determine next steps, and decide the right timing for those steps.
