Sara & Thomas
Leading up to our wedding in April 2023, I expected that Tom and I would need some form of medical intervention due to my history of fibroids. After eight months of trying naturally, my GYN told me that my fibroids were clearly the issue and advised me to stop trying to get pregnant because “not everyone is meant to be a mother.”
This, of course, ignited a fire in me to understand what was happening with my body and to find a team that would truly support us. I was quickly connected with Dr. Bortoletto and his amazing team in Waltham, including research nurse Sara M. Dr. B quickly reassured me that we would figure this out and that Tom and I would become parents one day soon.
After comprehensive testing and multiple hysteroscopies to remove the fibroids, we completed a round of IVF with egg retrieval last March. Our frozen embryo transfer (FET) was in July, and our very first little embryo stuck! Cole Thomas joined us on March 11, and our hearts feel so complete. We are forever grateful to the team at Boston IVF for making our dreams come true.

HOW DID YOUR BOSTON IVF PHYSICIAN AND NURSING TEAM HELP TO MAKE YOUR JOURNEY A SUCCESS?
Dr. Bortoletto and Sara Mawn in Waltham were incredible. Sara still checks in on me randomly, which means so much. I truly felt cared for and supported, knowing they had my back every step of the way.
WHAT WERE SOME HIGHS OR LOWS OF YOUR TREATMENT?
We went through two different clinical trials during this process - one to get the PGT testing covered and another to receive the Juveena gel post fibroid removal.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER STRUGGLING WITH INFERTILITY?
Do not give up hope, as hard as it may be. Advocate for yourself and do not settle with a team of doctors who would not move mountains for you.
